Alumni of the Wharton School
The Lippincott Library offers a variety of services to alumni for business research. All Wharton graduates are eligible to use the services described below.
Library Access
The Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center is open to the public on weekdays: a photo ID is needed to enter the building. Alumni who wish to use the Library on weekends and other periods of restricted access should apply for a Penn Alumni Card. This card, which is issued by Alumni Relations, carries the holder's photo, name, Penn school(s) and year(s), costs $25, and is valid for ten years. Call the PennCARD ID Center at 215/898-2646 for details or visit the Penn Alumni Card site.
Borrowing Privileges
Alumni who want to borrow materials from the Library's collections may apply for courtesy borrowing privileges at the special alumni rate of $200.00 per year. The Penn Alumni Card must be presented upon application for courtesy borrowing privileges.
Application for courtesy borrowing should be made Monday through Friday to the Van Pelt Circulation Department. Call (215/898- 7566) for more information.
Reference
Lippincott Library has extensive resources for conducting business research. Alumni may use the print and microtext materials for their information needs. Professional librarians are on duty most hours that the Library is open. For reference service, email lippinco@wharton.upenn.edu or call (215) 898-5924.
Referral
The Reference Staff can suggest strategies for locating information beyond Penn, including commercial search services and information brokers.
Electronic Resources
Alumni may use Franklin, the Library's online catalog, in the library or remotely. Access to a limited set of subscription electronic resources is available to alumni within library buildings. Please see the main Penn Libraries' alumni page for details. Other electronic resources are restricted, for contractual reasons, to current Penn students and staff.
Dow Jones Factiva - MBA Alumni only. Provided by MBA Career Management. Business data compiled by Dow Jones - Includes current company information and news.
Public Library Resources
Public libraries often provide access to high quality business research tools, both print and online. USA Public Libraries provides a listing of public libraries by state, with links to each library. For example:
- Free Library of Philadelphia - business databases are available by clicking the Business link. Additional resources are available through Power Library. A Free Library of Philadelphia library card is required.
- New York Public Library - certain business databases are available remotely, while others require a visit to a branch library or the Science Industry and Business Library (SIBL).
