Leon Levy Dental Medicine Library - Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery

Dental Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery is a service through which library materials in use or not owned by the Penn libraries may be requested and obtained from other libraries. Borrowing requests are processed by staff at the main ILL office in the Van Pelt Library as well as Biomedical staff. Interlibrary Loan may be used by all Dental School faculty, staff, and students.

Submitting Requests:
Requests for books or journal articles may be submitted by filling out an electronic form for Book or Journal requests on our web site.

Book Requests:

To request a book from another Penn Library/LIBRA, use the Request It link on the item record in the Franklin catalog.

For books not available at Penn (not owned, checked out, on reserve) we recommend checking availability in BorrowDirect, then E-ZBorrow. If neither service has the books that you want, please complete the Request Book form on the library webpage (or on the sidebar menu on this page).

  • BorrowDirect includes books from other Ivy League and Research University. Loan periods: One 12-week loan with no renewals.
  • E-ZBorrow includes books available from over 60 academic libraries in Pennsylvania and nearby states. Loan periods: One 12-week loan with no renewals.
  • Submit requests for books that cannot be supplied by either service using the Interlibrary Loan form.

Journal Requests:
If your journal article request is the result of a MEDLINE search, please include the unique identifier number, which can be found at the top of each citation, on the interlibrary loan request form. This information will speed your request along through the document delivery process.

Delivery Methods:

Journal articles
Articles will be posted to a secure website and a notification email sent. They may be accessed from your personal "Received documents" page. Articles will be available for 21 days. Downloading to your computer is recommended.

May be picked up at the Circulation Desk. You will be notified when the book has arrived.

Penn Loansome Doc is a fee-based service for photocopying articles from journals held in the Dental Library. The service is currently restricted to journals indexed by MEDLINE. Document requests must be submitted using the National Library of Medicine's Loansome Doc software. See our Penn Loansome Doc web site for details.
