Medical Library Services, located on the 3rd floor of the historic Pine building, is intended to be an on-site, easily accessible vital reference center incorporating modern information technology. The Collections include the Clinical Library, the Psychiatric Library and the Historic Library and Historic Collections. For additional information please call: (215)-829-3370.
Access Information
Pennsylvania Hospital Staff:Hours: 24 Hour Access
The Library is available to staff of Pennsylvania Hospital at all times. The Library is staffed from 9 AM to 4 PM. Entrance is by electronic ID card access. Call security at 215-829-3434 for problems with ID cards. A representative can be reached on beeper 215-998-5519. Pennsylvania Hospital Employees may contact security for access problems that occur outside of regular business hours.
University of Pennsylvania Community, Patients and Families, and General Public
Hours:
Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 4 PM
Other members of the University of Pennsylvania community, patients, and their families, and the general public are welcome to visit the Library from 9 AM until 4 PM Monday through Friday. A Library Services representative will admit persons without ID Badges to the Library.
Historic Collection and Archives

The Archives are located in the historic Pine Building at the Hospital.

Borrowing
- Items are listed in Franklin, the Penn Library Catalog.
- Books circulate for one month and may be renewed by phone, email, or in person, as needed
- Items from the Reserve, Reference and Journal collection do not circulate
- Books may be delivered from the Hospital Library to the Penn campus on Mondays and Wednesdays through the Penn Library Delivers program. When viewing an individual record for an item, use the "Place Request" tab at the top of the Franklin screen to make your request.
