Penn Library Delivers

Penn Library Delivers

Description

The Penn Library offers a delivery service as a convenience to its faculty, staff and students. You may ask to have items delivered from one Penn library to another Penn library of your choosing.

Eligible Borrowers

Any Penn faculty, staff, medical staff or student may submit online requests to have an item delivered from one Penn Library to another (except Biddle Law Library). Patrons whose records are blocked will be unable to place requests.

Eligible Materials

Books, videos and CD-ROM's that normally circulate are available for delivery. The following are examples of materials NOT eligible for delivery:

  • Journals
  • Reference materials
  • Reserve materials
  • Rare books
  • Other non-circulating items

This service does not include photocopies. Items listed as lost, missing, charged, renewed, at bindery, in transit, etc., are not available and cannot be delivered.

Please note: Books in library stacks continue to be available for checkout to walk-in patrons. If another patron comes in person to the library stacks for the book you have requested, that patron WILL be able to check out the book. If you urgently need something, the best way to ensure that you get it is to come to the library as soon as possible.

The library does not offer a retrieval service for items to be picked up in the same library where they are already located. Requests for items where the pickup location and the library location are the same will not be filled.

How to Request Delivery

  1. Search Franklin, the online catalog, for a specific item.
  2. Display the individual record.
  3. Click on the "Place Requests" tab at the top of the screen.
  4. Enter your Penn ID (last 10 digits on your PennCard); or the 12 digit barcode number of your Biomedical Library Gold Card or Courtesy Borrower card, and your last name.
  5. From the Request menu, select "Get from Storage or a Penn Library"
  6. Follow the instructions on the form.

Delivery

Requests will be processed daily Monday - Friday. Deliveries are made daily Monday - Friday on the Penn campus, and on Monday and Wednesday to and from theLibrary at the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies and Pennsylvania Hospital libraries. Please allow up to three working days from the time you submit your request until the item is available for pickup at your selected library.

Notification of Availability

You will receive a notice via email when the item you requested arrives at the pickup location.

Unavailable Books

If the requested item cannot be delivered, you will receive an email message explaining your options.

Information in Your Library Account

You can log in to your own record (click "Your Library Account" tab in Franklin) at any time to see the status of your requests.

Requests will be displayed in either the "Requests Pending" or the "Items Available" section. Delivery requests that cannot be filled will be listed in the "Pending" section as not filled with a specific reason.

An item that is successfully retrieved will appear in the "Pending" section until it is received at the pickup location. At that point, the "Available" section will indicate the pickup location, and the date the item will be returned if not picked up.
