Use of Electronic Resources

Subscription resources, such as most databases, ebooks, and ejournals, are only available to University of Pennsylvania faculty, students, and staff. See:

Off-Campus Access

The Penn Libraries use EZproxy to enable off-campus access to most online subscription resources. When connecting to a resource, you will be asked for your PennKey and password. Once logged in, you can access most resources without having to log in again, as your credentials move with you until you exit your browser. For more information and to test your access see About EZproxy

Quick Browser Access

The Proxy Bookmarklet automatically inserts the Penn Libraries proxy prepend "" in front of a publisher-provided URL to a resource. Once successfully installed, by clicking on the bookmarket on a webpage that requires you to pay, you can access the full-text of journal articles and other content subscribed to by the Penn Libraries. For more information and to download the bookmarklet, see Proxy Bookmarklet

Proxy Prepend

If the library subscribes to the content, in many cases, you can add the proxy preprend before a publisher provided URL or DOI and get access.

  • Sage:
  • JSTOR:
  • DOI:

Some resources generate permalinks that will work off campus:

  • Franklin Articles+ - From the search results page, note the permalink icon.
  • EBSCO - When looking at an individual article record, note the Permalink option to the right. EBSCO automatically adds the proxy prepend to the URL.
