East Asian Seminar Room - Description
Located on the fifth floor--Room 526--of the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, the Derk Bodde East Asian Seminar Room is a library space designated for research and teaching in East Asian studies. Those using the seminar room for individual and group research activities in East Asian studies will have priority over other users.
The East Asia Seminar Room houses more than 3,400 reference books in East Asian studies and forty-eight unbound core academic journals in Chinese and Japanese. (Other current journals are housed in the Current Periodicals Section on the first floor of the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center.) These materials are non-circulating, though East Asian Studies professors and graduate students may borrow items with the Chinese or Japanese bibliographer's special written permission. The Seminar Room also includes a computer workstation that includes specialized software for the use of East Asian-language databases.
The Seminar Room also hosts classes in East Asian studies, during which time the room is reserved solely for class use. A schedule of reservations is posted on the Seminar Room door. Reservations for classes are made on a semester-by-semester basis. East Asian studies faculty may also reserve the room in three-hour segments for other occasions throughout the year. For reservations, please contact Brian Vivier at (215) 898-3412 or Molly Des Jardin at (215) 898-3205.
