Philadelphia Composers: Peter Gilles (1776-1839)

Peter Gilles, violoncellist and composer, emigrated to the United States from France with his father, oboist Peter Gilles Sr., and his brother, oboist and composer Henri Noël Gilles (1778-1834). Gilles was active as a performer in Philadelphia and was one of the original twelve directors of the Musical Fund Society.
