Philadelphia Lithographers: Peter Kramer (1823-1907)

Peter Kramer, painter and lithographer, was born near Munich in1823. He emigrated to the United States in 1848 and settled in Philadelphia where he worked for Peter S. Duval until 1857. For a brief period in the 1850s (1850 or 1851) Kramer was also associ ated with Lewis N. Rosenthal, another Philadelphia lithographer. A small number of prints were issued under the company name Kramer & Rosenthal. Kramer returned to Europe in 1858 and worked in Huttgart. He was expelled for caricaturing the king and return ed to New York to open his own studio. He died in Brooklyn in 1907.
