Philadelphia Music Publishers: Lee & Walker
The Lee & Walker music publishing firm was founded in Philadelphia in1848 by George W. Lee (d. 1875) and Julius Walker (d. 1857). Both Walker and Lee had worked as clerks for George Willig's publishing company and in1856 Lee & Walker absorbed Willig's business into their own. Lee & Walker was responsible for publishing many works by Philadelphian Septimus Winner as well as first editions of patriotc songs such as Dixie in 1860 and Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean in 1861. The firm was bought out by Oliver Ditson of Boston in 1875.
