Morris H. Traubel was born in 1820 in Frankfurt-am-Main in Germany. He studied lithography in Germany with Dorndorf. By 1853 Traubel was in Philadelphia where he joined Edward Schnabel, Theodore Leonhardt, and John F. Finkeldey in a short-lived firm called the Lithographic Institute. Traubel formed his own firm and continued to work in Philadelphia until his death in 1897.
