The Brontës: 1849
Filey, North Yorkshire

Charlotte Brontë and Ellen Nussey stayed in Filey,a small North Yorkshire fishing town and resort from 7 to 14 June 1849 after Anne Brontë's death, seeking the seclusion which Scarborough could not provide. They boarded at Cliff House Lodgings on North Street (now called Belle Vue Street).

In late May 1852, Charlotte returned to Filey alone to recuperate after a period of ill health and depression.
