Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe, Edgar Allan Poe's mother, died on 8 December 1811 in Richmond, Virginia. Her remains were buried at Old Saint John's Church in Richmond. David Poe, Edgar's father, apparently died within a few days of his wife, on December 10.The legend that either or both of Poe's parents died in the Richmond Theater fire of 26 December 1811 is romantic fiction.
