Edgar Allan Poe: 1842, 1843
Saratoga Springs, New York

In the summer of 1842, Edgar Allan Poe went to Saratoga to arrange for the treatment of his sick wife, Virginia, and to recover his own health. He stayed at a hotel in Saratoga, but visited the Trout Ponds daily.

Tradition has it that he wrote part of “The Raven” at what would later be the site of Yaddo, the artist retreat in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Poe visited Saratoga again in the summer of 1843.
