William Wordsworth: 1813
Rydal, Cumbria (Part 2)

The Wordsworths took up residence at Rydal Mount in May 1813 after leaving the Rectory opposite Saint Oswald's Church in Grasmere. Wordsworth lived at Rydal Mount until his death in 1850.

The Wordsworths were pleased with their new residence and its views of the surrounding Windermere countryside. They were determined to turn it into a proper home, furnishing and carpeting it to the best of their financial abilities. In particular, they made great efforts with the gardens and grounds, which were kept well-landscaped and maintained. The lawns, fell-side terraces, rock-pools, and mount were constructed in ways that harmonized with the surrounding scenic views.
