William Wordsworth: 1824
Rydal, Cumbria
Lady de Fleming of Rydal Hall funded the construction and provided the site for Saint Mary's Church of Rydal, Cumbria. In 1824, it was constructed in an orchard, a site that William Wordsworth helped select. He also made a number of suggestions about the design of the building, but was later highly critical about the way its interior turned out.The Wordsworth family attended Saint Mary's Church regularly, and Wordsworth was chapel warden in 1833.
A window in the south side of the church memorializes Dora Wordsworth's two stepdaughters, Mima and Rotha, from her 1841 marriage to Edward Quillinan.
