South Asia in the Special Collection
Many rare titles on South Asia are held in the Annenberg Rare Book & Manuscript Library located on the sixth floor of the Van Pelt Library. A particular strength is the collection on the early travel literature to South Asia. Titles from the 18th and 19th centuries are well represented in a wide variety of subjects such as the religious conditions of the time, early historical writings on Indian civilization, and other titles that reflect the early contact of the West with the East that was India. Texts from the 16th and 17th centuries are also well represented in the collection in Latin, Portuguese and English.
Among authors, the collection holds an impressive number of first editions of Rudyard Kipling.
