The South Asia Studies Seminar Room

The South Asia Reading Room, on the fifth floor of Van Pelt, houses a collection of reference works as well as the South Asia Art Archive, which consists of over 115,000 photographs and more than 3,000 color slides of Indic architecture, painting and sculpture. The Archive duplicates the holdings of the Center for Art and Archaeology of the American Institute of Indian Studies in Gurgaon, India and is open to all who are interested in the study of Indian art.

Capacity/Seating
There are four tables each seating four persons, with additional seating at each of the six carrels. There are also an additional six 'lounge' chairs in the periodical/newspaper area.
Collection Policy Materials in the South Asia Seminar Room are all non-circulating.

The AIIS/South Asia Photo Archive, containing over 115,000 photos of temple sculpture and architecture, is also housed in the South Asia Reading Room. For access to this collection, please see or contact the South Asia Bibliographer, David Nelson.
Room Use Policy The room can be scheduled for small seminar classes either for the semester or one-time use by contacting David Nelson, South Asia Bibliographer.
Facilities There is one computer workstation which connects to the online catalog, databases and the internet. There is one ethernet connection located on the north wall in the middle of the room.
