The Evolution of Origin
Fish Image
On exhibit: August 25, 2008 - March 22, 2009
This small exhibition dedicated to the evolution of Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species is presented in conjunction with the Penn Reading Project. This year's book, Neil Shubin's Your Inner Fish, focuses on the evolution of sea creatures to land animals - vividly depicting how we, as modern humans, are structurally and genetically related to an extensive variety of species from fish to bats. Materials on display here explore the refinements that the grandfather of evolution made to his famous work, originally titled On the Origin of Species (1859), one of the most influential scientific works of all time. The exhibit highlights some of Darwin's most significant alterations, allowing us a small glimpse into how his argument evolved over time in response to the criticisms of his contemporaries.
