Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria" was one of the works most closely associated with Marian Anderson. If not programmed on a recital, it was likely to be requested as an encore. In addition to the original version composed for voice and piano, Ms. Anderson also performed the song with orchestral accompaniment. One such occasion was Christmas 1944, when her performance with the Westminster Choir College Choir, under the direction of Leopold Stokowski, was filmed for broadcast. In addition, her rendition of Robert Russell Bennett's arrangement [below, first page only] was included on her recording of Christmas carols, issued by RCA Records.
