G. Grant Williams [right], editor of the Philadelphia Tribune, ran an advertisement in the 29 May 1915 issue for "Marian Anderson: A Worthy Cause." He was promoting a benefit concert "to assist in the musical education of Miss Marian E. Anderson." Under the auspices of the People's Choral Society, the concert took place on 23 June 1915 in the Musical Fund Hall [below], located on Locust Street, between 8th and 9th. As the evening's program [follows Musical Fund Hall below] indicates, Miss Anderson performed a piece by Camille Saint-Saëns. |
