Bordone's book reflects the nature of many of the new discoveries by depicting the islands of the world, or "isolario." By training and occupation, Bordone was an illustrator and miniaturist. His reputation as an artist made his text suitable for the connoisseurs' market, and numerous editions of it appeared throughout the 16th century.
