Huttich compiled and Grynaeus edited this early anthology of travel relations, including the letters of Columbus and Vespucci and the decades of Peter Martyr. In his preface, Grynaeus stresses the utility of bringing these accounts together in one volume, and in Latin, so that readers might conveniently compare various descriptions of New World lands and peoples.
