This is Tovar's depiction of the Nahuatl tonalpohualli, the sacred almanac, with twenty day-names represented by hieroglyphs. In its attempt to amalgamate the Nahuatl calendar with Christian saints' days, Tovar's calendar bears witness to the process of religious syncretism that occurred in 16th century Mexico.
