CULTURAL READINGS: Colonization & Print in the Americas

Jay I. Kislak Foundation
Johannes Boemus,
I costumi le leggi et l'usanze di tutte le genti.

Venice: Dominico & Alvise Giglio, 1566.

First published in Latin in 1520, Boemus's popular little tome was an attempt to collect in one place the rituals, practices, and customs of peoples ancient and modern. It was a book which inevitably grew as more information became available as a result of discoveries abroad.
