Jacques Offenbach

Jacques Offenbach, 1819-1880
Lass mich schlummern, Herzlein; An Minna: Träum ich ist mein Auge trübe
In: Lieder und Arien von Offenbach Vater & Söhne
Manuscript, 1839-1850
Ms. Coll. 13

This Offenbach family album contains manuscript copies of arrangements for voice and guitar of works by Jacques Offenbach, his brother Jules, and his father Isaac, as well as by Mozart, Schubert, and Gluck, among others. Three of the songs in the album that are composed by Jacques--including the two displayed here--are previously unrecorded. The contents of the album, primarily in the hand of Isaac, were copied between 1839 and 1850. The volume was handed down through descendants of the three Offenbach sisters who emigrated to the United States, two of whom settled in Galveston Texas.
