The Philadelphia Orchestra & the American
Telephone and Telegraph Company
Program
30 April 1933

Stokowski's interest in recordings and sound transmission was the impetus for this 1933 Philadelphia Orchestra concert held in conjunction with the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. During the program, which demonstrated "recent advances in high-quality telephonic transmission and reproduction of music," the Orchestra played in the foyer of the Academy of Music under the baton of Alexander Smallens. The music was then transmitted to the auditorium where "it was received and its qualities controlled" by Stokowski.
