Business Systems Analyst

The Business Systems Analyst, working under the general direction of the Senior Operations Manager, works in a team environment to develop and maintain optimal performance of library systems. The primary focus is for this position is systems management and administration of Linux-, Windows-, and Solaris-based servers, network storage infrastructure, VMWare infrastructure, and critical business applications including courseware, library management, discover systems, repository, and faculty research profiles. The Operations Group manages all operations on systems including maintenance and upgrades of software and hardware, backups and archiving, security and account management, ensures the consistent and appropriate performance of software, and appropriate integration of systems and data. The Business Systems Analyst develops or implements protocols, tools, scripts, and documentation to support, document, and analyze systems operations. The Operations Group supports application development, implementation, and operation in a web-based, database-driven environment. The Business Systems Analyst will have contact with technical and functional staff in the Libraries, on campus, at partner sites, and with vendors.

DUTIES:

  • Perform system administration duties for data center servers, databases, network infrastructure, storage, and applications in a Linux, Windows, and Solaris environment
  • Produce and utilize technical documentation of installations, management procedures, support procedures, and standard operational protocols for data center
  • Ensure appropriate and effective security, configuration, and operations of applications, databases, and data integrations for mission critical applications
  • Performs detailed analysis and design of new systems, and modifies the design of existing ones to meet the needs of the Libraries
  • Works with staff at all levels of the organization, technical staff throughout the university, partner sites, and vendors to support and troubleshoot operations and ensure effective systems performance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three to five years of similar experience with demonstrated record of increasing complexity and responsibility
  • Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining operations of data center hardware, software, and protocols
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows, Linux, or Solaris operating system, and experience with VMWare implementation
  • 
  • Experience with security and access management in an Active Directory environment
  • 
  • Demonstrated capability to document operations and protocols and develop planning documents
  • 
  • Strong planning and communications skills with IT professionals, non-IT professionals, and with end users
  • 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and understand technical requirements, and to be responsive to specification documents
  • Familiar with project design and management concepts
  • 
  • Good interpersonal skills, reliability, and flexibility, demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, demonstrated ability to work in teams
  • 
  • Sense of humor
