Position Description and Duties:
The University of Pennsylvania Libraries seek a dynamic, energetic, and service-oriented individual to provide library and outreach services to the School of Veterinary Medicine at the New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, PA. Working collaboratively with the Veterinary Librarian and others, this position will serve clinicians, clients, faculty, researchers, students, staff and administrators at New Bolton. Along with the main Veterinary Library on the Philadelphia campus, the New Bolton Library is one of fifteen Penn libraries. The library is a leader in the development of digital library services and collections and is aggressively experimenting with and adopting new technology in research and teaching.
The part-time Assistant Librarian will maintain and promote the New Bolton Center library, providing reference assistance, outreach services, collection weeding and maintenance, and support for special projects. This is a one year position with the possibility of an extension contingent upon funding.
A Master's Degree in Library Science or related field is required and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong service orientation and demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues and the public. Familiarity with library operations, automated library systems, and computer proficiency. Good communication and customer service skills, good judgment, and the ability to work independently. Attention to detail and dependability. General familiarity with subject matter of health and/or animals is desired.
