Policies and Procedures
A PennCard is not required to enter the Museum Library, but is required to charge books out from the collection. Most Museum Library books, other than bound periodicals, circulate for 28 days for University of Pennsylvania Undergraduates and Courtesy patrons, six months for Graduate Students and to the end of the academic year for Faculty. Audio-visual resources -- DVDs and VHS tapes -- circulate for seven days for all patrons.
Faculty and Museum Staff members may sign out bound and unbound periodicals briefly for scanning or photocopying purposes.
Items which do not circulate include bound and unbound periodicals, books in preservation boxes, folios, reference books, some CD-ROM resources, some Egyptology resources, all Reserve and Desk copies and all pamphlets. Photocopying Locked Case volumes, books in preservation boxes, folios, or otherwise fragile books is not permitted.
Requests to work with books from the Brinton Collection or books from the Locked Cases must be submitted to the Museum Library Circulation Desk. Locked Case stacks are not open for browsing. Library staff will retrieve requested Locked Case volumes, which may be viewed in the library, but not checked out from the library. Patrons will be asked to sign for Brinton and Locked Case books.
