Update Your SciFinder Clients
(01-APR-03)

As of April 1, 2003, SciFinder 2000 and older versions of SciFinder Scholar will be refused connection to the server at CAS. If you are running a SciFinder 2000 or SciFinder v.3.0 client, please take the earliest opportunity to upgrade! You can download the SciFinder 2002 clients from the Science and Engineering Libraries' Web page, http://www.library.upenn.edu/scitech, by clicking on Database link in the E-Resources mouse-over and selecting the SciFinder Scholar database from the list provided. You will need to authenticate with your username and PennKey, regardless of whether or not you are off-campus, before being taking to a screen from which you can download and install the client.

SciFinder 2002 contains many useful new features, including the ability to perform a stereo search, automatically limit a research topic search, and analyze hits from a substance search by real atom attachment, precision, or ring skeleton. The integration of the compound database, the reference database, and the reaction database is also much more seamless than in previous clients.

If you have any difficulties installing your SciFinder clients, either on- or off-campus, or if you would like a demonstration of the new features available, please contact Judith Currano, Head, Chemistry Library, at (215) 898-2177 or currano@pobox.upenn.edu.
