E-STAT from Statistics Canada
(01-MAY-03)

The Penn Library now provides a wealth of statistical information on Canada through E-STAT, produced by Statistics Canada, the Canadian federal agency responsible for providing statistical information nationwide.

E-STAT is an interface to Stats Canada's CANSIM II data collection, providing more than 1,600 data tables with several million time series from Stats Canada data collection programs.

Highlights include small-area (viz. census tracts) census data from the 1991, 1996, and 2001 Censuses of Population, an extensive set of historic census data for 1665 through 1871, and 2000 and 1997 federal and provincial election returns.

E-STAT also provides online access to Statistics Canada print publications, including the Canada Year Book and Canadian Social Trends.

E-STAT is offered free to educational institutions in Canada and elsewhere. Penn is one of only a dozen U.S. registered E-STATusers.
