Off-campus PC computers can once again connect to the CAS server using SciFinder Scholar! With the assistance of CAS staff, we have identified the off-campus access issues as stemming from a problem with our site.prf files. The CAS staff sent us an updated preference file, which is posted on the client download page.
In order to fix your current installations, please follow these directions.
- Delete the site.prf file in your C:/SFSCHLR folder.
- Visit http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/7033, and follow the link that reads, "If you need the SciFinder Client you can get it here."
- Select "download and install the client," agree to the license agreement, and choose the link to off-campus installations.
- In the text of the PC download instructions, you will find a link in bold pink type that starts, "Right click here...." Right-click on the link, and choose "Save link target as" from the menu options. The name of the file should be site.prf, and you should save it in your C:/SFSCHLR folder.
If you have not yet upgraded your client to SciFinder 2006, which became available in September, this would be a great opportunity to do so, as well. Download and installation instructions appear on the same page as the link to the updated preference file.
Information about the Mac off-campus clients will be announced as soon as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience.
