Class of 55 Conference Room
Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center
"Are we Safer in the Dark?" will include a panel of experts from around the country who will discuss open government and secrecy, the problems it poses, how it impacts communities, and what the public can do about it. Teleconference sponsors include ARL, ALA, SLA, the American Association of Law Libraries, American Society of Newspaper Editors/Sunshine Week, Coalition of Journalists for Open Government, National Freedom of Information Coalition, League of Women Voters, and OpenTheGovernment.org.
Sunshine Week will be observed this year March 12-18. Launched initially in March 2005, Sunshine Week's intent is to raise awareness of the importance of open government to everyone in the community. The effort is supported by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in Miami and coordinated regionally by journalists and newspaper editors.
