Vanderbilt TV News Archive
(11-SEP-03)

The Penn Library is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Vanderbilt Television News Archive, providing a searchable online abstracts database of network news broadcasts and discounted videotape lending rates for Penn faculty, students, and researchers.

TV-NewsSearch provides detailed summaries (not transcripts) of evening news broadcasts aired by ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and PBS. Abstracts include names of anchors and reporters, persons involved in the event reported, a summary of the event, and beginning and ending times for each news segment. More than 705,000 database records cover individual news segments from approximately 30,000 evening news broadcasts from 1968 to the present.

TV-NewsSearch also abstracts special news coverage including ABC's Nightline, war and terrorist news coverage, Presidential news conferences, and political party conventions.

Broadcasts described in TV-NewsSearch may be borrowed by Penn individuals directly from the Vanderbilt Television News Archive. Penn borrowers receive a reduced lending charge: Penn's sponsoring rate is $25.00 per half hour broadcast. Loan period is 30 days. Borrowing procedures must be negotiated with VTNA -- not the Penn Library -- by the individual borrower.

Using TV-NewsSearch requires free registration.
