On 1 October, the Penn Library Web will present a new interface for its major social sciences electronic bibliographic resources, including PsycARTICLES.
The following databases will become available through the CSA Internet Database Service interface:
- PsycINFO
- Sociological Abstracts
- EconLIT
- IBSS (International Bibliography of the Social Sciences)
- PAIS International
The CSA interface maintains the complete content from the Penn Library Web's current interface and provides several helpful features:
- Speedier updating, especially for SocAbs, published by CSA.
- Excellent thesaurus support, with comprehensive "explode" searching, and hierarchical support for the EconLIT JEL classification in EconLIT.
- Within PsycINFO, extensive hyperlinking among abstracts, including "Cited by ..." counts and links and Cited Reference links.
- Saved searches and weekly e-mail alerts.
- Simultaneous multiple-database searching.
- Hyperlinking to articles in the SAGE Fulltext Collections for communication, criminology, politics and international relations, and sociology (to be activated in January 2004).
- PennText article finding support.
- Unlimited simultaneous users. No "all ports full" messages!
Moving these databases to CSA from the OVID or SilverPlatter interfaces will save approximately 25-percent from the 2003 subscription cost. The CSA interface is presently used for several Penn Library Web e-resources: Social Services Abstracts, ARTbibliographies Modern, ASFA Aquaculture Abstracts, Index Islamicus, and METADEX.
PsycARTICLES will move to the APA's PsycNet interface from Journals@OVID. Moving to the publisher's own web service will provide more timely availability of recent issues of American Psychological Association journals, better support for PennText article finding, and savings of up to 20-percent from the 2003 subscription cost.
We know the interface change may affect your research and curricular work. Please contact the Van Pelt Library Research and Instructional Services librarians for assistance.
