The Penn Libraries are pleased to provide online access to the new major reference work, Encyclopedia of Neuroscience from ScienceDirect.
Encyclopedia of Neuroscience updates Adelman's 1987 Encyclopedia of Neuroscience (2 volumes, Birkhaeuser; 2nd ed. 2 volumes, 1999). With twice the number of entries and at eight times the length of that earlier work, Encyclopedia of Neuroscience provides a current summation of the research field. All aspects of neuroscience are covered:
- Autonomic nervous system. Communication, language and speech. Disease and dysfunction. Evolution and comparative biology of nervous systems. History of neuroscience. Intercellular communication. Methods and techniques. Molecular and cell biology of nervous systems. Motor and neuromusclar system. Nervous system development, repair and aging. Neural basis of behavior. Sensory systems. Structural organization of the brain.
The ScienceDirect platform provides easy linking from encyclopedia articles' bibliographies to cited fulltext journal articles.
To avoid costly duplication, the print version of this online reference work, Encyclopedia of Neuroscience / Larry R Squire, ed. (10 volumes, Academic Press, 2008) is not available in the Penn Libraries.
