According to a press release issued by the American Library Association (ALA), "award winners are selected for their outstanding contribution to the field of business librarianship" and Halperin was chosen for "his more than three decades of work as an innovator, teacher and mentor in the profession." Halperin's Business FAQ is a notable example of his innovation. He designed and has shared this tool with a consortium of institutions and it remains, ten years later, an invaluable resource that serves as the starting point for research in business and economics. Halperin has also been behind a number of successful adaptations of new technologies and services into the library, including being among the first to provide desktop delivery of documents to faculty and the first to introduce end-user searching.
Halperin will receive his award–a citation and $3,000 cash prize–at the RUSA Awards Ceremony and Reception in Chicago, on Monday, July 13, as a part of ALA's Annual Conference events.
