Times of India Historical Archive (1838-2001)
(20-DEC-11)

The Times of India, the world's largest selling English-language daily newspaper, is now available through the Penn Library Web for its complete archive, 1838 to 2001.

Penn readers may browse single issues and search fulltext for articles from the Times of India using the same ProQuest Historical Newspapers interface shared by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, LA Times, and Philadelphia Tribune backfiles.

The Times of India, starting as a semi-weekly newspaper and expanding to a daily edition in 1850, was a prominent voice in British Imperial India with readership extending back to Europe and it has continued its press leadership after Independence.

For press coverage of South Asia, the Times of India historic archive complements the Penn Libraries' extensive collection of historic and current newspapers from South Asia in print and microform, and the pre-1923 South Asian Newspapers collection, part of the Center for Research Libraries/Readex collaboration, the World Newspaper Archive.
