SciFinder 2001 Client to be Discontinued
(31-MAR-04)

The Chemical Abstracts Service will be discontinuing the SciFinder 2001 client tomorrow, April 1, 2004. This means that if you are currently running the SciFinder 2001 client either on campus or off-campus, you will encounter error messages when you attempt to connect, beginning tomorrow.

In order to avoid this, you can upgrade your SciFinder clients to the current client, SciFinder 2004. The 2004 release has many exciting new features, including the ability to:

  • Limit structure searches by substance classes
  • Refine a set of substances by isotope content, metal content, and property availability.
  • Refine a reaction search by document type, number of steps, reaction classification, year, and language.
  • Analyze a set of reactions by yield, catalyst, solvent, number of steps, classification, etc.
  • Get reaction information directly from a substance's Registry listing

You can download the new client from the Science and Engineering Libraries Web page, at http://www.library.upenn.edu/scitech, or from any of the other Penn Libraries' home pages. Simply type "SciFinder" in the E-Resource locator in the upper left corner of the screen, and you will be taken to the client download pages. If you encounter any difficulty, please feel free to contact Judith Currano at currano@pobox.upenn.edu or (215) 898-2177.

Finally, if you'd like to learn more about the new features present in the SciFinder 2004 client, we will be holding a workshop on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, from 3-4 PM in the Carolyn Hoff Lynch Lecture Hall on the first floor of the Chemistry Department building. All are welcome to attend.
