Beyond Google: Spring Workshop Series
(16-FEB-04)
The Science & Engineering Libraries proudly present their Spring series of workshops, designed to help researchers improve and develop information searching skills using a number of key scitech resources. This Spring we offer seven different workshops.
-
Advanced Beilstein
May 12, 2004, Wednesday, 3-5 PM, Chemistry Library Computer Lab
Teaches advanced Beilstein CrossFire search techniques such as substructure searching, searching for marked substances or isotopes, searching for organic polymer information, performing complex text queries, and combining text and structure searches.
-
EndNote
February 19, 2004, Thursday, 3-4:30 PM, Chemistry Library Computer Lab
Learn to use the EndNote reference management software, which can be used to store references, insert them into Word Documents, and format documents in the styles of various journals.
-
Gmelin
May 18, 2004, Tuesday, 3-5 PM, Chemistry Library Computer Lab
Teaches attendees basic structure searching in Gmelin CrossFire. Also covers location of properties information by performing simple text searches and combination text-subject queries.
-
INSPEC/Compendex
April 13, 2004, Tuesday, 11 AM-12 PM, 337 Towne Building
Two of the most powerful engineering databases, COMPENDEX & INSPEC, are now searchable simultaneously on the same platform! This workshop is designed to teach effective searching of these databases to locate journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports. Topics covered will include keyword, author, and journal title searching; combining and limiting searches; de-duplicating and downloading results.
-
ISI Science Citation Index
February 26, 2004, Thursday, 3 - 4:30 PM, Chemistry Library Computer Lab
March 30, 2004, Tuesday, 12-1 PM, 337 Towne Building
This workshop is designed to teach you how to use the Science Citation Index effectively. You will learn how to search for journal articles by topic and author; how to use the citation index to find journal articles that cite a particular author or paper, and how to combine, limit, save and download your searches and results.
