RSVP Today: FREE Fringe Festival Event at Van Pelt Library for UPenn students and staff

The Quiet Volume by Ant Hampton and Tim Etchells (England)

Enter the strange magic at the heart of the reading experience: In a public library, during regular hours, two audience members sit side-by-side with headphones on. Words whispered and written guide them down an unlikely path through a pile of books.

The Quiet Volume exploits the particular tension common to libraries worldwide; a combination of silence and concentration within which different peoples' experiences of reading unfold. Audience members delve into a deeply internal world, transporting from one reader's sphere into another's.

Two people per show. Sign up with a friend (or request a partner when you register). A new show begins every 15 minutes and runs 60 minutes.

At the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center on:

Tuesday, Sept 10: ongoing from 10am-3pm
Wednesday, Sept 11: ongoing from 10am-3pm
Thursday, Sept 12: ongoing from 10am-3pm
