The Encyclopedia of Social Work, now in its 20th edition copublished by the National Association of Social Workers and Oxford University Press, is available in the Penn Library Web's searchable online edition and a 4-volume print edition at Van Pelt Reference.
The new edition of The Encyclopedia of Social Work covers all aspects of social work, including practice and interventions, social environments, social conditions and challenges, social policy and history. In the 13 years since the previous edition the concerns and purview of the field of social work has grown significantly and topics such as multiculturalism, cultural competence and culturally competent practice have been wrapped into the field. The new 20th edition offers expanded coverage of overseas subjects including regional summary articles. Many more biographies have been added and the chronologies of the field have also grown to make the work "a kaleidoscope made up of the myriad interests and identities of our profession."
Five Penn faculty and staff are counted among the 437 contributing authors to the The Encyclopedia of Social Work
