Lost and Found Policy - Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center

If you lose something in Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, please note that valuable items are handled differently than non-valuable items.

Wallets, PennCards, cell phones, and similar valuable belongings are turned in to the Library Business Office on the second floor, Room 240, and can be picked up there Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If the lost item includes any identifying information, staff from the Business Office will attempt to contact you directly.

If you should happen to lose a valuable item during the evening or weekend, and you realize it right away, please ask the Library Door Guard (at the main entrance, first floor, 215-898-5444) to contact the Building Supervisor. When the Business Office is closed, the Building Supervisor will keep valuables secured until the following business day.

Articles of clothing, books, papers, and similar non-valuable items are turned in at the Rosengarten Reserve Desk in the Goldstein Undergraduate Study Center and held there one day before being moved to a secure area for two weeks. If you have lost your glasses, notebook, scarf, or something like that, please call 215-898-7561 or visit the Reserve Desk on the ground floor. If the item is not at the Reserve Desk, the staff will check the Lost and Found log to see if the item is listed, and if so, will contact the Building Supervisor to have it retrieved for you. After two weeks, unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity.
