"I have been immersed in music all my life," says Library Overseer Joseph B. Glossberg, W'63, WG'65. He serves on the boards of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Jazz Institute of Chicago, and the Merrit School of Music. When he was chair of the Library Board of Overseers, Joe saw a way to support his love for music within the context of the Library - he would create an endowed fund to support the study of music at Penn. Thus was born the Joseph B. Glossberg Fund, which has added to the Library's music resources, especially in the area of jazz recordings.

In addition to creating The Joseph B. Glossberg Fund to support collection development for the music library, Glossberg, a Wharton alumnus, provided funding for the Lippincott Library seminar room now named in his honor. "Wharton students need to be able to exploit cutting-edge new information services and technologies and to make them part of their way of approaching business decisions," Glossberg explains.

The Glossberg Seminar Room offers meeting space for groups of up to twelve people, with computer projection facilities and high speed Internet access to realize Glossberg's vision. Since its opening in spring 1996, it has quickly become one of the library's most popular spaces for students working in small groups.

Joseph Glossberg's long record of service to Penn includes membership on the Board of Trustees, the Investment Board (Endowment) and the Steering Committee, Campaign for Penn; he is chair of the Library Board of Overseers; Vice Chairman for the Midwest President's Council, and a founding member of the Alumni Council on Admissions. Mr. Glossberg is a recipient of the Alumni Award of Merit.

Recent acquisitions made from The Glossberg Fund include Chick Corea's Complete IS Sessions, Don Cherry's Complete Communion, and Hank Mobley's Thinking of Home.
