The Alfred Bendiner Memorial Fund was established in 1977 as a memorial to Mr. Bendiner (B.Arch. 1922 and M.Arch. 1927), who served as artist for the University Museum's archeological expedition to Tepe Gawra and Khafaji, Iraq in 1937, and was architect to the university's Tikal-Tikal archeological expedition to Guatamala in 1960. A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and president of the Philadelphia Chapter, Mr. Bendiner was acclaimed not only as an artist, but also as a writer, publishing Music to My Eyes (1952) and Bendiner's Philadelphia (1964), and contributing to Atlantic Monthly and Harper's.

The income from the fund supports the purchase of rare books in architecture, architectural drawings, and prints of architectural subjects for the rare book library of the Graduate School of Fine Arts.
