Established in 1936 through a bequest from Dr. William McDowell Mastin (M.D., 1874), this fund supports the acquisition of materials for the Biomedical Library.

Dr. Mastin studied medicine at Penn, and, following an internship at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, he furthered his studies with work at Wills Eye Hospital of Pennsylvania and various European hospitals. He returned to Mobile, Alabama, and became active in a number of national medical associations and was the attending physician to Spring Hill College in Mobile for more than 30 years.

The fund has grown twelve-fold and is an important resource for the Biomedical Library thanks to the generosity and foresight of Dr. Mastin.
