The Body as Evidence
On exhibit October 10, 2003 - January 27, 2004
This retrospective features Candace di Carlos’s artistic photography, which blends the real and the metaphysical, the permitted, and the forbidden. These are images of silence from a pre-word realm of pure being. They are memories made tangible—like psychic tatoos, memories transmogrified and a redemption from the past. The photographs are computer-less and traditionally made.
The exhibition includes selections from four portfolios. The Hexagon Series (1984-93), an homage to Samuel Beckett, is presented with a series of drawings from that same time. The Infinity Series is an ongoing project, begun in 1994. The Mutter Series (2000-2001) is a memento mori and tribute to the unique museum. And from Cabaret Fleur, a few botanical selections—a little night music from the garden.
