Global Perspectives on the Medieval Past

Okada Gyokuzan, Morokoshi meishō zue
On exhibit March 7-May 23, 2019
The items on display represent diverse aspects of the Penn Libraries collections for the study of the Middle Ages across the globe. Expanding our sense of the Middle Ages to a global scale, this exhibit follows elements of medieval cultures across space and time. Individual world regions have followed very different historical trajectories, but the networks among many of these regions and the common elements in change over the course of the medieval period allow for new interpretations that combine disparate sources and far-flung parallels in historical development.
