Carton Rogers served as Vice Provost and Director of Libraries at the University of Pennsylvania from July 2004 through June 2018.
He was responsible for planning, acquiring, managing, and preserving the knowledge and information resources that support Penn's instructional and research programs. He oversaw 18 centrally administered libraries and commons as well as Penn Libraries' digital presence.
As Vice Provost and Director of Libraries, Rogers represents Penn's interest in the national and regional library consortia that enhance scholarly access to information and advocate for libraries in public and government arenas. These consortia include the Research Libraries Group, the Coalition for Networked Information, the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the American Library Association, and the Digital Library Federation (DLF). Currently, Rogers is Treasurer of the DLF Executive Committee, and a member of ARL's Research, Teaching, and Learning Committee.
Rogers began at Penn in 1975 and held a number of positions at the Penn Libraries: Head of Reference and Technical Services at the School of Medicine Library, Senior Business Administrator, Library Labor Relations Director, and Associate Director of the Goldstein Information Processing Center. He also served in an interim capacity in a number of positions, including Director of Special Collections, Director of Public Services, and Director of Collection Development and Management.
