Emily Batista
Emily has worked at Penn Libraries for 36 years in a variety of positions, starting as a business reference librarian in the Lippincott Library, then moving to Van Pelt Library as the Head of Circulation Services. Since then, she has served in a variety of positions in the access services area, including Head of Resource Sharing, acting Head of Biomed Document Delivery Services, Head of Rosengarten Reserve, and project manager for implementing a number of systems, including ILLiad and RAPID for resource sharing. She even filled in as the Director of Information Services back in the day when we only had a staff of FIVE in IT! She managed the migration from CLSI to NOTIS, and was part of the team for the migration from NOTIS to Voyager, and coordinated the training for the migration from Voyager to Alma. Since stepping down as Head of Access Services, she has continued to represent Penn in a variety of resource sharing forums, and actively participates in access services team initiatives. She worked full time for two years on the OLE project until Penn ended its participation as the head of the fulfillment subject matter experts. Recently she filled in as Acting Director of Access Services, and currently as Acting Head of Circulation Services, coming back full circle to a role she held in 1988!!
Prior to arriving in Philadelphia, Emily worked as a consultant at the Minnesota State Law Library in St. Paul, and previously as Head of Circulation in the Hinsdale Public Library, and Assistant Director at the Blue Island Public Library, both in the Chicago suburbs. Her undergraduate degree is from Iowa State University, where her major was German, and she has an MSLS and an MBA from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
Current projects: ReShare Project Subject Matter Expert team; Penn member of IPLC Resource Sharing Group and Operations Group, liaison to the Collective Collection Development Standing Committee from RSG; SHARES representative from Penn.
